Learn about the world of Music Therapy through a career retrospective with Maryanna Sokol, whose work as a Board Certified Music Therapist spans 18 years, 3 states, and countless settings and individuals. From neuro-rehabilitation in the Texas Medical Center to dementia care in Manhattan’s Upper East Side to a pediatric ICU in California’s Central Valley, the power of music remains the foundation for a unique and passionate career path. Maryanna will educate the crowd about MT through a little career retrospective, share a few client stories and talk about how music can be used therapeutically in different settings 

Musician Bio:

Houston based singer-songwriters/instrumentalists Tom Tranchilla & Buddy Allen perform a variety of country, folk, americana, ragtime, blues, both originals and covers. Tom specializes in finger-style 6 & 12-string acoustic guitars and vocals and “string-wizard” Buddy Allen specializes in guitar, mandolin, fiddle, guitar, banjo (just about everything with strings), as well as vocals. In their 20-year music partnership, Tom & Buddy have released 2 all-instrumental guitar duet CDs/albums: Acoustic Spontaneity and Acoustic Audio Dacity, receiving rave reviews from My Texas Music, Stave Magazine and Houston Folklore Society’s, Cotton Patch. Tom released 2 solo LPs prior to working with Buddy: Sketches of Life, which contains two internet radio chart toppers: Union Man, featured on numerous national labor talk shows, reaching #4 on the Texas Top 40 (texastop40.com) as well as Tom’s arrangement/cover of Tom Ball and Kenny Sultan’s, The Perfect Woman, which reached #2 on the Texas Top 40 charts. In addition, Tom’s debut LP, That Train, was given high reviews and featured in Music News. Tom also hosts KPFT’s, 90.1 weekly radio interview show, Songwriters Studio, from 7:00 to 8:00 PM Sundays.


Bring your Own Lunch:

Every Second and Fourth Sunday of the month, we will have our lunch in the room for the Sunday Gathering at the Montrose center. This will give us an extended opportunity for conversation with our fellow Oasians. Please feel free to bring in or order in food for yourself or to share. We will also have limited amounts of food brought incase anyone forgets or is unable to bring food.
