Various secular groups in Houston will join to clean up trash along the Buffalo Bayou at Hershey Terry Park! There are many additional Trash Bash 2023 locations across the greater Houston area, so if there is a different event happening in your end of town that you would like to host a secular group at please let me know! The various event sites are listed HERE. To participate at the Buffalo Bayou event, please register by scrolling down to the location listed on this website and then clicking on the Register button next to Buffalo Bayou (Terry Hershey Park).

From the event organizers Event info: The River, Lakes, Bays ‘N Bayous Trash Bash® invites you to attend the 29th annual cleanup event on Saturday, March 25, 2023. Join the thousands of volunteers who attend each year to help cleanup waterways all throughout the Galveston Bay watershed. Cleanup supplies, event t-shirts, and lunch are provided to all volunteers, so bring your family and friends and come “Clean it like you mean it !”®

Parking: 

A parking lot is located between Highway 6 and Eldridge, at 15200 Memorial Drive where volunteers will be getting on shuttle buses for transportation to sites throughout the park. However, the parking lot will be filled very early in the morning. Additional parking is available at: • Terry Hershey Parking on I-10 – 13501 Interstate 10 Frontage Rd, Houston, TX 77079. NOTE: No shuttle service. This is a short walk to the Gazebo registration area. • Terry Hershey Parking on Hwy 6 – 1004 Addicks-Howell Rd, Houston, TX 77079. NOTE: Must walk under the highway bridge to Briar Hill One Complex for shuttle service. • Briar Hill One Complex – 1011 S Texas 6, Houston, TX 77077 – EAST LOT. Shuttle service available. • Saint John Vianney Catholic Church – 625 Nottingham Oaks Trail, Houston, TX 77079 – SOUTH LOT. Shuttle service available. • Terry Hershey Trail Parking Lot / Robin Trail – 1001 S Dairy Ashford Rd, Houston, TX 77077. Shuttle service available. • Additional street parking close to the Gazebo on Memorial Mews St and Memorial View Dr, Houston, TX 77079. NOTE: No shuttle service. This is a short walk to the Gazebo registration area. 

Registration/Check-in Area: 

Registration is at the gazebo at 15200 Memorial Drive. Transportation is provided to and from various parking sites. Area To Be Cleaned: The locations to be cleaned are the wooded areas along Buffalo Bayou in Terry Hershey Park from Highway 6 to Beltway 8*. *Please note - There will be no shuttle bus transportation this year to the Beltway 8 location. Only private parking and foot traffic due to limited availability of parking spaces. Schedule for the Day: 8:00 am – 9:00 am Registration 9:00 am – 11:00 am Cleanup 11:00 am – 12:00 pm 

Lunch Registration, Liability Waiver, and Photo Release Form:

 Every participant must sign a registration form that includes a liability waiver section and photo release before participating in the cleanup. Minors must have the form signed by their parent or guardian, not just a chaperone. Registration forms can be downloaded in English or Spanish from the Trash Bash® website so that you can print the form, complete it in advance, and bring it with you. This is especially recommended for larger groups to help speed up the registration process. 

What to wear/bring: 

Trash Bash® will happen rain or shine unless inclement weather poses a danger to participants. Conditions can be slippery, muddy, or overgrown, and temperatures can range from cold to warm. It is recommended that you bring the following items: pants, sunscreen, hats, insect repellant, rubber boots or sturdy closed-toed shoes you don’t mind getting dirty, and rain gear. NO sandals or flip-flops. Volunteers wearing inappropriate footwear will not be allowed to participate.
