Speaker Bio:
Miriam is originally from Laredo, Texas and is a proud daughter of two Mexican immigrants. Miriam Camero attended the University of Texas at Austin for her BSW in Social Work, BA in Philosophy, and MSW in Clinical Social Worker. Miriam also received her JD from the University of Houston Law Center. She first became active in the immigrant community through her field placement at Texas Rio Grande Legal Aid in Austin, Texas where she served as the first social work intern at the University of Texas Immigration and Domestic Violence Clinic. During her master’s program, Miriam served for Americorps and was placed in Communities in Schools’ Eastside Memorial High School. Currently, Miriam also serves on the NASW-TX Chapter Human Rights Committee.
Musician Bio:
Benjamin Grafton, a native of Houston, combines elements of folk, rock, and songwriter with the occasional hint of hip hop. Benjamin has played piano, guitar, and sang for over 20 years and obtained an Associates in Music from Austin Community College in 2009. Some of his biggest influences include MJ, Elton and Billy, both Bob's (Marley and Dylan), and David Matthews. Benjamin is currently recording and co-producing his first 2 EP's and plays keys/sings backup vocals for Jay Bee Zay and the Nightcrawlers.
