Main Topic:  The Ape That Jumps

Main Speaker: Dale Mc Gowan

Music: Benjamin Grafton

Main talk Summary:

We are desperately unsuited for the world we live in—"captive to our biology,” as Nassim Taleb put it, "unless we manage a cunning escape.” The most common escape, one that has worked for millennia, is currently falling to pieces, and there is no obvious replacement. What’s the plan here?

Speaker Bio:

Dale is managing editor of nonreligious writers at Patheos, the world’s largest website for multi-belief opinion. He teaches music at Oglethorpe University, is at work on a book about how music communicates emotion, and hosts the How Music Does That podcast. He also founded the humanist nonprofit Foundation Beyond Belief in 2009. He was named Harvard Humanist of the Year in 2008 for his work in nonreligious parenting. Dale has written extensively about science, music, parenting, and the interface between religious belief and unbelief. His books include Sharing Reality, Parenting Beyond Belief, Raising Freethinkers, Voices of Unbelief, Atheism For Dummies, In Faith and in Doubt, and the satirical novels Calling Bernadette’s Bluff and Good Thunder.
