About Houston Oasis

Houston Oasis is a secular community that meets weekly on Sunday mornings here to enjoy fascinating talks, live music, and conversation. We are part of the Oasis Network of secular communities.

These five core values define the Oasis community:

  • People are more important than beliefs
  • Reality is known through reason
  • Meaning comes from making a difference
  • Human hands solve human problems
  • Be accepting and be accepted

Wondrous Strange: Confronting Our Ignorance

In his iconic and arguably best play, Shakespeare’s Hamlet and Horatio are confronted by the ghost of the recently dead king. Horatio is understandably aghast, crying out, “O day and night, but this is wondrous strange!”

Reflecting on Community Groups

As the Fall 2019 community groups start wrapping up, I wanted to reflect upon the whole experience. I’ve been coming to Oasis for a long time, long enough to remember when we fit into a much, much smaller room.
